AIA Portland Technology Symposium
Advancing the Art of Making

Think. Make. Tell.
Join AIA Portland for an exploration of how architects and engineers can gain insight from others in the design community. The Technology Symposium will examine different technology perspectives from creative industries such as film, industrial design, digital fabrication, and interactive environments.
The symposium kicks off Thursday evening, September 20th with opening remarks by Hideshi Hamaguchi, Director of Strategy at ZIBA, who will discuss the theme of technology in the design process: Think, Make, Tell.
Friday, September 21st, attendees will participate in several discussions broken out into three main areas:
THINK
Creative thinkers from the fields of Film Animation, Industrial Design and Interactive Technology will discuss how technology impacts their creative process and how they think through the generative stage of conceptual design.
MAKE
Three expert makers will discuss how their projects fair in the real world, from a deeper understanding of the full life cycle of projects to the advantages and pitfalls of new fabrication technologies.
TELL
Creative professionals from active technology and branding discuss how they utilize technology to help describe the story of their projects, define the end-user experience, and create personal connection.
In between panel discussions, attendees will enjoy a diverse range of “Pecha-Kucha” style presentations, and connect with local resources and technology representatives.
The symposium concludes Friday afternoon with reflections by J. Meejin Yoon of MY Studio / Howeler + Yoon in Boston and the Director of the Undergraduate Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, who will discuss the intersection of technology, art, and architecture in her own work.
